MATCH REPORT | CD JÁVEA 1-0 CREVILLENTE DEPORTIVO

CD Jávea dug out the performance of the season to secure only their third win of the season. A goal from Mario Feliu midway through the second-half secured maximum points against a powerful side sitting in third spot at the beginning of the weekend but equal praise should be afforded to the solid back line which soaked up immense pressure from a side that it budgeted for Third Division football.

The game began as expected with the hosts quickly establishing control but without managing to carve out any real opportunities in front of goal. As the minutes ticked by, the home side grew in confidence, as ever encouraged by the voice of head coach Julio Ivorra who paced up and down the touchline, experiencing every move and kicking every ball himself.

The rojiblancos back-line suffered a loss after just three minutes, losing the experienced Marcos Bisquert, who was replaced by club captain Aldo Michan, returning after a two-match suspension. And a big mention must be made for the defensive line in front of Tonet: #4 Isac Gomis had the best game of the season since his arrival from Muro CF and might have scored an unlikely long-range stunner with a thumping clearance, whilst #6 Victor Caturla used all his experience and off-the-ball cunning to frustrate the opposition attackers; out on the flanks, #2 Willy snapped at their wide men at every occasion whilst #14 Aldo defied every one of his 36 years to chase down attackers all over the pitch.

After a confident first half performance, Jávea came out for the second period with only one thought on their minds: we’re going to win this game, whatever. Pitu tested the opposition keeper with a fizzing shot from wide that the custodian could only to push out for a corner. A few minutes later, Mario’s snatched half-volley flew just wide of the right post and then Caturla met a fine corner from Fran with his head, forcing the keeper into another great save.

And then, on 69 minutes, it happened. A huge misunderstanding between the defender and his keeper allowed the diminutive Mario Feliu to nip in between and, despite being pushed out wide, he was able to get off a low shot from a narrow angle that was encouraged over the final few metres into the net by the huge roar of the fans in the main stand. 1-0 and thoroughly deserved.

The opposition were stunned into lifting their game and forced a couple of dangerous corners whilst Antonio Galvez could only watch in despair as his shot went just wide of an equaliser, agonising for him, pure relief for the home fans. With five minutes added on time, that rock solid back line worked hard to contain a last ditch effort from the opposition to force a share of the spoils and the final whistle brought a leap of joy from the head coach and a roar of success from the stands.
