MATCH REPORT | CD JÁVEA 0-2 Hércules CF “B”
A bizarre own goal and wonderful curling shot from the edge of the area secured victory for the visitors.
CD Jávea remain rooted to the bottom of the league after a disappointing 0-2 defeat at the hands of Hércules CF “B” at the Campo d’Esports Municipal. Both goals arrived in the second period after a dull first half in which neither side could manage a shot on target and leave the rojiblancos four points adrift of safety.
On paper, Jávea had a good chance of extending their lead to four games and, after the performance of the season last weekend, there was every hope that they would claim another three points in the fight for survival. However, the first half produced very little action with both gaolkeepers engaged more in retrieving the ball from behind their goals rather than pulling off any saves of note since neither side could manage a shot on target.
In the second-half, the home side looked the brighter side in the opening few minutes but the wind was savagely taken out of their sails on 58 minutes when a bizarre own goal opened the scoring for the visitors. Defender Willy, normally so strong and confident in the back-line, saw his wayward clearance curl back towards his own goal, the ball hitting the base of the right post before rebounding off the back of goalkeeper’s Tonet’s leg and into the net. The stuffing was well and truly knocked out of the home side whilst the visitor’s confidence grew.
But, with half an hour still to play, the game was not over but Jávea couldn’t find their way into a scoring opportunities as Hércules “B” battened down the hatches and absorbed the pressure. Head coach Julio Ivorra threw on Tomás and Javi to try and give the midfield some battling experience but the visitors stood firm and five minutes from time, doubled their advantage with a wonderful curling shot from the edge of the area from substitute Blessed that left Tonet grabbing at fresh air as it nestled into the top left of the net.
The result leaves CD Jávea bottom of the table on 14 points. Next weekend, they face a tricky away game over the bump in Dénia, who carved out an unlikely win at early pacesetters CD Eldense “B”. Meanwhile, David Villa’s CF Benidorm open up a nine-point lead at the top.
