Defeat in Callosa de la Segura, CD Jávea third in succession, leaves the rojiblancos six points adrift of safety with just nine games remaining in this inaugural season of the new elite Lliga Comunitat.
This was a fight for survival, a true six-pointer. Jávea entered the encounter without two key defender as both Willy and Caturla were suspended whilst Callosa’s early season hopes of a play-off spot has become a battle against relegation.
After a goalless first half, the home side charged into a two goal lead within 10 minutes of the start of the second period through goals from Ricardo and Fran, a brace that practically secured three valuable points for the home side. A minute from time, substitute Samson pulled one back for the rojiblancos but there was not enough time to push for an equaliser and the final whistle heraled Jávea’s third successive defeat.
The chances of avoiding relegation are receding. Along with Callosa Deportiva’s victory, CF La Nucia “B” won at home to struggling Santa Pola CF, opening a two point cushion with the bottom three after CD Thader’s crushing home defeat to Hércules CF “B”.
The forthcoming weekend break is another chance for head coach Julio Ivorra to not only work on his side’s physical attributes but also their mental approach. It’s not over yet. But games are running out.
