CD Jávea make the short journey to La Font d’En Carròs on Saturday evening, kick-off 6.00pm, hoping to continue their five-match unbeaten run and climb into the top eight for the first time since the opening round of the season.
Head coach Julio Ivorra will be without influential skipper Aldo Michan for this vital game, the solid defender forced to sit out the match due to suspension. The 35-year-old Argentine, who has made more than 375 appearances for the club, picked up his tenth caution of the season last weekend in the solid victory against CD Olímpic de Xàtiva, resulting in a one-match suspension. The veteran covered almost every inch of the pitch during the game and his absence will be a concern.
At the other end of the pitch, striker José Cabo will be seeking to continue his purple patch in front of goal, having scored three goals in the last two games to take his tally to six for the season, just one behind leading scorer Javi Hernández. His superb strike last weekend, which ended up as the winner, has already been compared to Emilio Butragueño’s opening goal for Spain in the 1986 World Cup match against Denmark, pouncing onto a poor defensive error to smash the ball home from edge of the area.
In midfield, Luis García has been an ever-present, starting in all thirty games and scoring five goals. The former Atlético Benidorm player has had a stunning first season with the club, his tricks with the ball upsetting many defences and, at 20 years of age, he can only be better. Whether his future remains at Jávea or he decides to move on at the end of the season, a common feature of football at this level, remains to be seen.
The fans have also played a huge part in the recovery of the team since Ivorra took over in December. The head coach has given them plenty to cheer about and CD Jávea currently has the third best form of the second half of the season behind runaway leaders Ontinyent 1931 CF and third-placed UD Castellonense. Thus, it is hoped that many fans will also make the short trip to support the rojiblancos.
