Saturday 26th March 2022 – Mike Smith with Xàbia AL DÍA

CD Jávea v CF La Nucia “B”

Campo Municipal d’Esports, Jávea

Referee: Miguel Ángel Barragan Cerdan

Preferente football returns after the break for the Fallas festivities and it does so with a very interesting match between CD Jávea and La Nucia CF “B”. Undoubtedly, the visiting side is the one with the best form at the moment, boasting a run of six successive victories, including wins over Ontinyent 1931 CF, UE Tavernes and CD Dénia.

For its part, CD Jávea is also on a good run, having chalked up four wins and two draws in the past six games and Xàbia AL DÍA spoke with head coach Lauro Techeira this week as they prepared for the match:

How did you take advantage of last week’s break?

Basically we took the opportunity to try to recover those players affected [by injuries]. The players have also rested to be able to return this week with more intense training sessions to prepare for the resumption of the league.

Is La Nucía, Sunday’s rival, the in-form team right now?

Undoubtedly it is the team that is in the best shape right now, having six wins in a row in the league. It is a young team and physically the best, having players who alternate with the RFEF Second Division. We also come with a good dynamic with six games [without defeat] and we will try to face [the opposition] and break that run.

What about the squad after the loss of Quintana; have you added new players?

We have had the loss of Quintana. With losing the goalscorer of the club, the squad has been reduced whilst players who came with a certain level have decided to leave the club for different reasons [Tali, Cristian]. However, former captain, Aldo has returned and Isma, a young Moroccan, has been training with the team for several days now. The team is motivated, training very well, we have changed the dynamics of the team and there is a good atmosphere and a desire to keep fighting in every game.

This week, the first team and the youth team play on the day. Normally that would resolve the problem of completing the list of players for the senior side.

We will see on Sunday how the team is and the situation, the goal is that we all benefit and fix it in the best way.

In recent games the fans have turned out in smaller numbers for home games compared to the beginning of the season. Kicking off just before midday on Sunday mornings has not benefited from increasing the number of people who come through the gate so playing later in the day might encourage a few more fans to come out and cheer on their local side.

We know that this is a special year, because of the transitions that have taken place within the club, so the team needs support more than ever. The last match at Sueca saw eight players from Jávea or those who cam come up through ranks turn out for the side and this has not happened for many years. The lads are facing the difficult situation and deserve the support for the work they are doing and for managing to change the negative dynamics and add points so that the team does not get in trouble at the end of the season.
