Despite their position in the table, Callosa Deportiva CF should be considered as one of the most powerful sides in the group, having been crowned champions of Group IV of the Regional Preferente last season. However, head coach Julio Ivorra admits that it is his side’s lack of firepower which is of greater concern to him, the ‘rojiblancos’ having hit the back of the net just four times in six games. But he will hoping that the fans will once again fill the main stand and encourage his side to the first victory of the season.
The Opposition
Callosa Deportiva CF was formed in 1933 and have never played at a higher level that the Third Division (in its various guises), the last time being during the 2021/22 season when they finished 16th and suffered immediate relegation back to the Regional Preferente.
Last season, they finished top of the table of Group IV of the Regional Preferente, seven points ahead of CF La Nucia “B” but fell to defeat to UD Castellonense (Group III) in the promotion play-offs, losing 0-3 over two legs. However, the consolation prize was a confirmed place in the inaugural FFCV Lliga Comunitat.
Callosa Deportiva are in 7th spot in the table after the first six games in which they have failed to win a game at home but, ominously, they have enjoyed victory in all three games on the road, including a 4-1 thumping of CF La Nucia “B” last weekend.
Their top scorer is 22-year-old striker Manuel Bernabeu with three goals from six games.
Previous Meetings
The last time we met was during the 1989/90 season in the Regional Preferente Grupo Sur, a successful campaign that saw CD Jávea finish champions and win promotion to the Third Division. The ‘rojiblancos’ did the “double” over Callosa, winning 3-1 away on December 17th 1989 and then 2-0 at home on April 29th 1990. This season was the last time CD Jávea won promotion to a higher level.
This Week’s Fixtures
Top of the table CD Eldense ‘B’ host FB Redovan CF and will be hoping to maintain their 100% home record and record a sixth successive victory against a side sitting in mid-table and ease themselves away from CF Benidorm who face a tricky away trip to CF UE Tavernes de la Valldigna, never an easy place to go when you’re after valuable points but have won their last four outings.
Hércules CF “B” host bottom club CD Thader in a game that they will surely dominate, gain maximum points and keep in touch with the top two, having scored seven goals in their three games at home. Thader have had a woeful start to the season and have still yet to find the back of the net after six games.
CF UD Calpe will making the short journey down the coast to take on CFI Alicante, buoyed by their comprehensive 2-0 home win in the Marina Alta derby against CD Jávea last weekend. The opposition have yet to win at home this season and drew 0-0 against Santa Pola CF last time out.
Crevillente Deportivo take on CD Olímpic at home. They thumped CD Thader 5-0 in Rojales last weekend and will be looking for a third successive victory against the side from Xàtiva that have had a mixed start to the season but will be boosted by the 3-1 home victory over CF UE Tavernes last weekend.
CF La Nucia “B” will hosting Santa Pola CF, another side which has yet to win on the road this season. The reserve side suffered a 2-0 defeat at CF Benidorm last weekend, ending a three-match winning run whilst the Santapoleros are still looking for their first win since the opening day of the season.
Finally, CD Dénia will be hosting struggling L’Olleria CF. The home side has been hit by a huge six-game suspension for Pablo Segui for an excessive response to the performance of the referee and one of his assistants last weekend whilst defender Elías Martínez and midfielder and former Jávea player Paco Gazquez are both suspended for picking up five cautions. The Dianense side has already accumulated more than 50 cards in just six games and seen seven of their team shown red cards, including two for the head coach Vidal López. Indeed, the last three games have seen Dénia finished the game without their full compliment on the pitch and suffer three successive defeats. L’Olleria CF will be looking for the first points since the middle of September; CD Dénia will be looking to keep 11 players on the pitch for 90 minutes.
