OUR OPPONENTS
Although the first football team representing Callosa de la Segura was formed in 1933, the current incarnation of Callosa Deportiva CF was born in 1996, the fifth club to bear the name in a series of resurgences in fortune after previous formations folded due to economic issues.
The most successful formation was the third generation which played between 1951 and 1962 and spent seven years competing in the Tercera División which was third step in the national pyramid system in Spain at the time. Two seventh place spots were secured in successive seasons between 1955 and 1957, their highest ever finish.
The fourth incarnation was formed in 1966 and the club returned to the Tercera Divisíon in 1980, although by this time it was the fourth step in the pyramid. A return to regional football in 1982 was followed by another promotion back to the Tercera División in 1985 – still step four – where it remained for four seasons before returning to regional football again in 1989 and then sliding down to fold again in 1994.
The current incarnation emerged two years later in 1996, spending much of its late 90s and 2000s playing in the lower reaches of regional football in Valencia. A championship at the end of the 2010-11 season resulted in promotion to the Regional Preferente and then another championship season in 2020-21 saw the club return to the Tercera División after an absence of almost three decades. Now step five in the Spanish league pyramid, the jump proved too much for the club and it dropped straight back into the Preferente, winning Group 4 for a chance for an immediate return but were denied after a play-off defeat to UD Castellonense in the final round.
However, the top place finish meant that the club had secured a spot in the new elite FFCV Lliga Comunitat after the restructuring of the league system in the Valencian region in 2023 but side finished second from bottom to suffer relegation to the Primera FFCV.
Callosa Deportiva CF currently sit in 9th spot in Group 4 with 19 points from 14 games. Last week, the side chalked up its first win in six games – a 3-0 victory at home over CD Montesinos – which lifted them away from the bottom three.
HEAD 2 HEAD
CD Jávea and Callosa Deportiva CF have met four times previously, the first encounter being in December 1989 when the rojiblancos ran out 3-1 winners at El Palmeral, the “double” being completed at the end of April 1990 with a 2-0 win in Jávea.
Last season, the two clubs unsuccessfully played out a relegation battle, Jávea winning at home 2-0 in late October 2023 whilst Callosa Deportiva took all three points after a narrow 2-1 victory in mid-March 2024.
