Since June, it has been necessary to pre-register in advance to visit this natural area.

The Policía Local de Xàbia and the administration of Parque Natural del Montgó have launched a special surveillance operation of COVA TALLADA during the summer months to protect a stunning natural space that attracts a great number of visitors. The operation also has the support of the Policía Local de Dénia and Policía Autonómica.

The operation involves the presence of officers from the Maritime Unit in the cave on random days who will be checking that visitors are in possession of the appropriate access reservation receipt in accordance with the requirements of the Resolution 01/03/2022 issued by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development, Climate Emergency and Ecological Transition at the Generalitat Valenciana which limits public access by land or by sea during certain periods of the year.

In addition, officers will be ensuring that the maximum navigation speed of 3 knots through the waters of the surroundings of the cave, the Reserva Marina del Cap de Sant Antonio, is respected.

Cova Tallada Access Restrictions

Due to the cave’s limited capacity, access to Cova Tallada, an old tosca stone quarry that has providing the building blocks for many of the iconic buildings in the region, has been restricted during certain periods since 2022. These periods are from March 23rd to April 8th, from April 28th to May 5th, and from June 15th to October 15th.

Those wishing to visit the site during these periods, either by land or by sea, must made a reservation ten days in advance for up to five people through the official website of the Parque Natural del Montgó here, providing appropriate identification details in addition to the date of the visit. There is a full explanation on how to complete this process in English here. When visiting the cave, the printed authorisation must be carried and produced when requested.

The Policía Local de Xàbia reminds all visitors that there is no coverage in Cova Tallada, that appropriate footwear should be worn, and that water should be carried. In addition, visits are not recommended for people who are not used to walking in the mountains.
