La Xabiera online shopping portal celebrates one year

Online shoppers have not only come from Xàbia but also Andalusia, Madrid, Castilla y León and Catalonia.

La Xabiera, the online shopping portal in Xàbia, celebrates one year since it was launched in May 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 lockdown. From 12 stores which joined the project at the beginning, the portal now offers 33 businesses, establishing itself as a useful online sales channel for local trade in the town.

Since its launch on May 19th 2020, more than 45,000 pages of the online shopping portal have been viewed by almost 8,000 users who spend an average of three minutes browsing La Xabiera.

Browsers have come mainly from Xàbia but there have also been orders received from elsewhere in Spain such as Andalusia, Madrid, Castilla y León and Catalonia. The most popular items that have been purchased by small appliances, textiles and footwear as well as gift cards that were promoted for Three Kings, Father’s Day and Mother’s Day.

In addition to online sales, La Xabiera also functions as a showcase for all the shops that have joined the initiative. Users can access the marketplace, search for items that interest them, and then go to the storeplace to buy them. It is a facility that has boomed during the pandemic as people avoided physical contact in shops.

Its success has encouraged the development of La Xabiera Gastro which will become an online trading portal dedicated to catering and food in which bars and restaurants as well as catering services will be able to participate. Users will be able to order food for consumption at home.

The launch of La Xabiera has been part of a process of digital transformation for local commerce which has been developed by the trade associations of Xàbia Històrica and Xàbia Port and to which Xàbia Arenal has now become involved. In the first phase, businesses attended a cource on how to transform small businesses into online sales. The second phase advised shops on how to improve management of their social networks, sending commercial emails, optimizing Google search engine positioning. and improving websites. The third phase has been the launch of La Xabiera so that shops and companies can sell their products and services online.
