The Department of Citizen Security has begun steps to create a canine unit in Xàbia that will be attached to the Policía Local and will be dedicated to tasks related to drug detection.

The first member of this new unit will be “Kosmo” a German shepherd who has demonstrated aptitude for his training as a police dog. The Council and its owner have signed an agreement for the transfer of the dog, which has been taken care of by an agent and who will shortly begin to be instructed to develop his nose in the detection of narcotics.

A contract is also being processed to cover their maintenance and veterinary care. When he is ready he will receive his own uniform and credentials from him.

The project aims to respond to the new security demands that arise every day in the population, specifically the consumption of narcotics.

Kosmo will be especially useful in the registration of vehicles and premises in the event of suspicions of drug possession, in preventive controls in educational centres or leisure areas, in the security protocols of special events, and also at the educational and prevention level, since it will participate in exhibitions in schools to make children aware of the danger of using drugs.
