Juan Ayuso rises to the top in the Giro d’Italia U23

According to some sources, Ayuso is the first Spaniard to win the youth edition of the Giro d’Italia.

Xàbia cyclist Juan Ayuso has been crowned champion of the Giro d’Italia U23 that has been taking place this last week in Italy.

The xabiero, who competes with Team Colpack Ballan, took the title on Saturday after the tenth and final stage of the race, which was held between the town towns of San Vito al Tagliamento and Castelfranco Veneto in north-east Italy.

According to some sources, Ayuso is the first Spaniard to win the youth edition of the Giro d’Italia, a race in which iconic cyclists such as Marco Pantani and Gilberto Simoni have prevailed.

Ayuso won three stages and finished ahead in the overall standings above Norwegian Tobias Haaland Johannessen (Uno X Dare) and Belgian Henri Vandenabeele (Development DSM), who claimed second and third spots respectively.
