Last weekend Xàbia cyclist Juan Ayuso participated in the Clásica de San Sebastián, a race celebrating its 40th edition which is on the professional cycling calendar as a preparation between the Tour de France and the Vuelta de España.
Ayuso made his debit in a WorldTour event (the highest category of professional cycling) and managed to sneak into the top 20, finishing in a creditable 18th position, crossing the line 1m 36s behind the winner, the American Neilson Powless, who finished the course in 5h 34m 31s.
Ayuso summarized his performance on Twitter:

Gracias a todos los que, a pesar de la lluvia, habéis estado en la cuneta chillando mi nombre. Di todo lo que tenia, a pesar de que se me hiciera largo el final, disfruté durante todo el día.
Todo llegará…👊🏼 pic.twitter.com/2XV44xMo3l
Fulfilling one of my dreams debuting at the Worldtour.
Thanks to all of you who, despite the rain, have been on the kerbside shouting my name. I gave everything I had, even though the end was long, I enjoyed the whole day.
Everything will come …
