Xàbia cyclist, Juan Ayuso, donned the Comunitat de l’Esport jersey for the best Valencian cyclist in the 2022 edition of the Volta a la Comunitat Valenciana after completing the five stages and placing 19th overall. The event was the second in the 2022 ICU Pro Series season, the second tier of road cycling below the ICU World Tour, the latter of which includes the famous three Grand Tours to which Ayuso aspires.
19-year-old Ayuso began his first professional season in the UAE Team Emirates team with a return to the Comunidad Valenciana to participate in a race (which was won by the Russian Alesksandr Vlasov (Bora-Hansgrohe)) together with Remco Evenepoel (Quick-Step Alpha Vinyl Team) and Carlos Rodríguez (Ineos Grenadiers), the other great hope of Spanish cycling, who rivaled the xabiero in lower categories.
Ayuso came in 13th place overall in the first stage, 16th in the second, 31st in the third (after suffering a breakdown), 44 in the fourth and finally in the last stage he was 31st overall, so at the end of the event, he was placed 19th overall
Ayuso’s next appointment will be the Vuelta a Andalucia from February 16th to 20th, a gruelling 818 kilometre five stage cycling tour through southern Spain.
