The Xàbia Department of Culture closes the Jazz a 100 cycle this week and does so with Joan Soler, one of the most renowned Spanish jazz guitarists. Soler will offer a personal review of jazz standards, Brazilian music themes and his own compositions.

He will be accompanied by excellent musicians such as Dario Di Lecce (double bass) or Quique Ramírez (drums) and by a very special guest: Sara Dowling, one of the best voices in current jazz, internationally recognized and winner of the British Jazz Awards 2019 as best vocalist of Jazz.

The concert is on Friday 31st March 31 at 8.00pm at the Casa de Cultura in Plaça del Baix in the heart of the historic centre. Tickets, priced at 5 euros, can be purchased online here.

The weekend will have another appointment with music with the Centro Artístico Musical de Xàbia performing its traditional Spring concert on Saturday 1st April 1 at 9.30pm in the church of San Bartolomé. Under the direction of Héctor Buigues, the band will perform pieces such as Magic Overture (Thomas Doss), El Racó de l’or (Saül Gómez Soler) and a second part with themes from soundtracks such as ‘Frozen’, ‘How train your dragon’ and a Morricone medley. Admission is free.

Within the cultural agenda of the week there is also space for painting and theatre. On the one hand, the historian David Gutiérrez will offer a conference entitled the drawings of Joaquín Sorolla in Xàbia on Thursday 30th March at 7.30pm in the Casa de Cultura. This act is part of the municipal program for the Sorolla Year (the centenary of his death is commemorated) which has already started the exhibition De la Idea al Bronce by Javier de Benito.
