Jávea Players announce new production for November

The Jávea Players have announced details of a new production to be performed at the Studio Theatre in Thiviers in November entitled “The Long Road”, which has been described as a “poignant exploration of family dynamics, resilience and the human capacity for healing”.
It is a tough subject matter, but this play is unfortunately very relevant to modern-day life, as it encapsulates how grief can be felt in different ways within a family. In the UK, barely a day passes without some mention of a knife crime: the police recorded 583 homicide offences year ending March 2024. This is a 4% increase over the previous year, or 9.7 per million people. A brief reckless moment can end a life and cause tremendous pain to the loved ones.
Shelagh Stephenson wrote this play in 2008 with the collaboration of The Forgiveness Project and Synergy Theatre, a company which works with prisoners and ex-prisoners aiming for their eventual rehabilitation. It is about forgiveness, how you deal with the unimaginable pain and anger, and the ‘long road’ to reconciliation with the family and even the perpetrator.
Caroline Drewett-Mansell’s sensitive production will leave you reflecting about this dilemma in a different way than you might have thought. It is a tense and powerful play, but interspersed with humour, too.
