Information panels installed to avoid traffic jams on access roads to popular coves

The council has also agreed access times for employees of active tourism companies.

The Department of Beaches in Xàbia has installed information panels which will report live updates on the number of parking spaces available on access roads to the popular coves of Cala Granadella and Cala Barraca-Portitxol.

The panels are located on the Carretera del Portitxol at the junction with Carrer La Barraca and at the exit of Carretera del Portitxol from the roundabout at the junction with Camí Cabanes (Supermercado Consum).

They will provide updates on the parking situation in Carrer Pic Tort (Cala Granadella) and Carrer La Barraca (Cala Barraca-Portitxol) to prevent drivers from making unnecessary trips to the two popular beaches, access to both of which is regulated during the summer months.

The councillor responsible for Beaches, Juan Ortolá (CPJ), explained that the system has been installed in an attempt to deter drivers from travelling to the access control barriers if there are no parking spaces available, providing them with a choice to head to another beach so as to prevent traffic jams building up along the access roads.

The councillor also confirmed that the town hall has agreed that active tourism companies are able to access Cala Granadella during certain hours to allow employees to travel unhindered and with compatibility with the measures put in place to avoid overcrowding of the cove.
