GOVERNMENT BEGINS PROCESS FOR CONSTRUCTION OF NEW JUNCTION ON AP-7
The 30 million euro project will connect the motorway with the N-332 between Pedreguer and Gata de Gorgos.
Just days after the opening of a new junction on the AP-7 which links the motorway with the southern half of Oliva and Pego, the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (MITMA) has announced that it has put out to tender the drafting phase of a new junction which will link the motorway with the N-332 between Pedreguer and Gata de Gorgos, a project for which just over 30 million euros has been put aside.
The N-332 forms part of the infrastructure of the Mediterranean road corridor, a main connection route between the municipalities of the Levantine coast between the city of Valencia and the eastern parts of Andalusia. Between Ondara and Gata de Gorgos, an average of 20,000 vehicles used the road every day, peaking in the summer period since it is the main route to Xàbia.
The removal of tolls on the AP-7 in January 2020 allowed the motorway to be promoted as a high-capacity route through the Marina Alta, aiming to reduce traffic on the N-332, improve road safety and reduce travelling times. A new junction would further reduce through traffic along the stretch between Ondara and Benissa as well as improve access to Ondara, Dénia, Pedreguer, Gata de Gorgos, Xàbia and Benissa amongst others.
The statement from MITMA further explains that, which the commissioning of the bypass around Benissa in the summer of 2020 and the recent tender for the complementary project to reform the N-332 between Benissa and Teulada, this new junction will provide additional improvement in traffic flow and road safety in the Marina Alta region through greater connectivity with the AP-7 motorway.
Last week MITMA put a new junction which links the AP-7 to the N-332 south of Oliva into service, a 35.8 million euro project which, in addition to reducing traffic, particularly heavy goods vehicles, through the town, also provides a new connection to Pego via the CV-715 and to the popular beach areas, including the Oliva Nova complex.
Bizarrely, the news comes almost a year after javeamigos.com published one of its annual ‘Inocente – December 28’ posts – Direct connection with A-7 motorway given go-ahead by regional authorities – in which we “reported” that an agreement had been reached to drive a direct connection between the AP-7 and the Arenal zone! Next week, the lottery numbers.
