The system will coordinate offers of assistance according to the demands of the affected municipalities.

The Generalitat Valenciana has activated an online platform to streamline the registration of volunteers to assist with the recovery operations in the municipalities affected by the devastating DANA storm that brought so much destruction to many parts of the province of Valencia last week.

From Tuesday 5th November, those who wish to do so can register their willingness to assist using the online portal SOM SOLIDARITAT and fill out a form to convey whether they are offering material, such as food, bottled water and sanitary products, or assistance, such as offering heavy lifting equipment, accommodation, and even financial donations.

The system works in the same way as one would use an online service to purchase tickets or request medical appointments. The potential volunteer can reserve the day and time slot in which they want to contribute to the recovery. Once the number of people required for each day has been reached, the system will close that day and move on to offer subsequent days, according to the demand from the municipalities.

After registering, volunteers offering phyical assistance will need to attend the temporary coordination centre at the Ciudad de las Arts y las Ciencias in the city of Valencia to collect the equipment which will be provided by the Generalitat Valenciana and be assigned transport to be taken to the affected areas.

The objective of this online portal is to channel and optimise the enormous wave of solidarity that has grown in the Valencian community and its eagerness to participate in the clean-up and recovery tasks in the affected municipalities. Since the beginning of the disaster, the Generalitat Valenciana has mobilised more than 12,500 volunteers.
