As has become tradition, the organising commission for the festivities honouring Jesús Nazareno has included a charity concert within its programme and, for 2024, the event brings together two young musical groups, the Youth Band of the Centre Artístic Musical de Xàbia (CAM) and Petit ARS, the youth wing of the ARS NOVA choral group, who will be performing to raise mponey for the ASPANION association which supports the families of children with cancer.

The performance will take place on Tuesday 30th April at 7.30pm in the marquee that will be installed in the Plaza de la Constitución. Under the title “Músicas del Mundo”, the first half of the concert will feature the Youth Band under the direction of Miriam Llerena which will perform the work “Around the World in 80 Days” by the Austrian composer Otto M. Schwarz, a musical journey through the melodies of Europe, India, America, Egypt and China.

The second half will see the young singers of Petit ARS performing “Tinc una Barca Molt Vella” by Josep L. Valldecabres, a set of three traditional pieces from different parts of Africa – ‘Siyahamba’, ‘Eh Soom Boo Kawaya’ and ‘Banaha’ – and finishing with ‘Cubanita‘ by Eva Ugalde. The group, under the direction of Antonio Caselles and Carme Català, will be accompanied by percussionists Pau Chorro and Sergio Gapyak as well as the group’s pianists Pablo Martín and Sílvia Ferrer.

The concert will continue with both groups performing together and for this occasion they have prepared a work entitled “Un Conte Enredat” by Enrique Alborch. Narration will be by Eva Cardona and Sofia Chorro, who will tell the story of a grandmother who wants to tell her granddaughters some of her classic stories but, due to illness, she ends up involving.

Finally, the concert will close with a work that has already become anthem called “Lluna Mediterrània” by Tio Aparicio, a song which calls for peace, respect and appreciation between people.

Tickets can be bought in advance from the Tourist Info Office in the church square in the historic centre and Decuero Leather in the same square opposite the main door to the church. They can also be purchases at the entrance to the marquee on the evening of the concert.
