The football authorities are proposing that a return of football is the return of hope, providing very necessary emotional support.

After a meeting with the clubs affected by the DANA storm at the end of October, the Comunidad Valenciana Football Federation (FFCV) has proposed a ‘DANA Recovery Plan’ to help rebuild football in region.

In a new document published on the official website, the federation explains that once the affected people are gradually recovering their lives and their homes, it is proposing the return of football as the return of hope. “They say football is the most important of the least important things … Playing football again provides a very necessary emotional help, especially for the thousands of boys and girls who have been hit by the tragedy.”

Up to 37 facilities have been affected in varying degrees – football pitches, changing rooms, floodlights – and 15 football grounds have been totally destroyed with the FFCV confirming that 15% of all Valencian football has suffered the effects of the DANA, although it is still gathering information as the days pass.

The following municipalities have seen their football grounds totally destroyed: Aldaia, Alfafar, Algemesí, Benetússer, Bugarra, Carlet, Castellar, Catarroja, La Torre, Massanassa, Montserrat, Paiporta, Picanya and Sedaví whilst those at Alginet, Beniparrel, Buñol, Chiva, Turís and Utiel has some damage of varying degrees.

The FFCV’s DANA Recovery Plan has four stages:

1. INSTALLATIONS

The document states that: “It is important to achieve the recovery of the facilities (both public and federative) as soon as possible so that the practice of football and futsal in the province of Valencia returns to normal. This requires commitment and economic investment, which can be achieved through several means:

  • A Crisis Committee formed by Liga F, LaLiga, AFE, FFCV, FFCM and RFEF.
  • The Central Body (The Government of Spain)
  • The Autonomous Body (Generalitat Valenciana)
  • Private Entities

2. ASSISTANCE FOR CLUBS

“The affected clubs need more things to be able to restart their daily activities, even if they do not yet have a facility. In order to keep football and futsal in Valencia from declining, these clubs need help in several ways:

  • Sports Equipment
  • Other Equipment
  • Transport for Matches and Training
  • Refereeing Costs
  • Coordination of the transfer of facilities by other clubs
  • And more aspects necessary for competitive activity

The entities that can assume this cost are:

  • FFCV
  • RFEF
  • Territorial Federations
  • National Professional and Non-Professional Clubs

3. RESTARTING COMPETITIONS

“The Valencian Football Federation will reorganise the competitions according to the categories and different groups, proposing the appropriate dates together with the affected clubs. In addition, the FFCV will be flexible in the schedules and setting of days with these clubs, taking into account the particular situation of each one of them.”

4. ACTIONS ALREADY STARTED

“Before carrying out this recovery plan, the FFCV has already carried out a series of actions aimed at raising funds and increasing awareness regarding what has happened to the clubs that have suffered the consequences of the DANA:

  • A formal request to the RFEF for a match between the Spanish National Teams (men and women).
  • An agreement to hold a legends match between AFE and RFEF
  • Collaboration of the FFCV in all the causes and solidarity actions carried out through football that have been proposed
  • Production of reports and collection of images of the affected camps by the FFCV for distribution in the media in order to raise awareness about their situation.
