Fernando Escolano wins three silvers at the 10th European Police and Firefighter Games

The success takes his personal tally to 27 medals over 16 years including four golds.


Fernando Escolano, a retired officer from Policía Local de Xàbia, has continued his sporting career after his retirement and has won three silver medals in the categories of Standard Pistol Shooting, Centre Fire Shooting and Compressed Air Shooting at the 10th European Police & Fire Games, which were held from between 14th and 18th October in Braga, Portugal.

These games bring together some 3.000 representatives of security and emergency forces from more than 40 countries, and have taken place every two years since their creation in Pontevedra in 2006. Escolano, 63, competed in the shooting events as part of the Iberian Police team, made up of members of the Spanish and Portuguese security forces and he highlighted the good sporting results obtained, declaring that he is now preparing for the next European Games or similar competitions.

With a professional career spanning more than 38 years in the local police force in Xàbia, Escolano has managed to combine his work with his passion for competitive sport, accumulating outstanding international experience in European and world-class competitions. Throughout his career he has competed in various pistol shooting disciplines, including Police Shooting, Standard Pistol calibre 22 Lr, Centre Fire Pistol calibre 38 special in dueling and precision, IPSC Production Pistol, Compressed Air Pistol, and Biathlon with a 6 km race plus pistol shooting.

Since he began participating in the European Police and Fire Games, Escolano has accumulated a total of twenty-seven medals, including:

  • A silver medal in Pontevedra 2008.
  • Two gold medals in Valencia 2010.
  • Three medals in Tenerife 2012: one silver and two bronze.
  • A bronze medal in Brussels 2014.
  • Three medals (gold, silver and bronze) in Huelva 2016.
  • Eight medals (six silver and two bronze) in Algeciras 2018.
  • Six medals (one gold, three silver and two bronze) in Torrevieja 2023.
  • And the recent three silver medals in Braga, Portugal.
