English language edition of Joaquin Sorolla research project published
The research project into Valencian painter Joaquin Sorolla won the inaugural prize in 2021.
An English language edition has been published of the winning submission to the I VILA DE XÀBIA RESEARCH PRIZE awarded in 2021 to art historian David Gutiérrez for his work “Xàbia en la vida y obra de Joaquín Sorolla” (“Xàbia in the life and work of Joaquin Sorolla”).
Promoted by the Municipal Archive of Xàbia with the collaboration of AMUX (the Association of the Friends of the Museum of Xàbia), the new version was launched in a presentation which was hosted by Christine Betterton-Jones and attended by the historian himself.
Thanks were given to the team of volunteers for their work in translating the research project into English – Gladys Cummings, Julie Freeman, Christine Irving, Patricia Penny, Mary Sears and Anne Sefton – as well as staff from the municipal archive and designer Mila Villalobos.
A total of 1,000 copies of the English version has been printed which can be purchased from the Casa del Cable exhibition centre in Paseo Marina Española in the port, currently open between 10.30am to 1.30pm and 7.00pm to 11.00pm Tuesday to Saturday and 10.30am to 1.30pm on Sunday.
In addition, the Department of Culture and the Municipal Archive of Xàbia have commissioned a second edition of the Spanish version since the first edition has sold out and it is hoped that it will be available to buy at the end of August.
