El Convent takes top prize in TastaXàbia tapas festival
More than 20 restaurants took part in the gastronomic initiative throughout the month of May.
Restaurante El Convent has taken top prize in the 1st edition of the TastaXàbia gastronomic festival which ran throughout the month of May. The popular venue, based in Placeta del Convent, attracted huge praise from tasters for their dish which featured artichoke topped with sliced pork belly and fried ham, all served on a truffle potato mash.
The TastaXàbia gastronomic campaign featured 23 restaurants across the town who offered a special tapas dish for consideration in a competition across 23 days in May. Tasters were able to vote on each dish using a special APP downloaded onto their phones.
The varied plates included Mexican Pork Tacos, Grilled Leeks served with Romescu Sauce, Figatell Mini Burgers, Smoked Pulled Pork Tacos, Anchovy Pinchos, Fish Tortilla and Steak Tartar Profiteroles.
El Convent were clear winners with 499 votes, Embruix came second with 344, and third was Cala Viuda with 307.
In addition to being able to grade each tapas using the APP, participants would be entered into a special draw to win one of three vouchers worth 200 euros to be spent with local businesses in Xàbia. The three lucky winners were Gema Jiménez, Marcos Reig and Martyna Warcholinska.
