EASYJET EXPANDS BASE AT ALICANTE-ELCHE AIRPORT
The budget airline will operate 11 new routes from the airport during the 2024 summer season.
The British budget airline easyJet has announced the opening of 11 new routes which will operate from Alicante-Elche (ALC) during the 2024 summer season, just a few months after announced the opening of a new seasonal base at the airport.
The airline will open five new routes to the United Kingdom: George Best Belfast City Airport, Birmingham, London-Southend, Newcastle International and Southampton; four new routes to France: Lille, Lyon–Saint Exupéry, Nantes Atlantique and Nice Côte d’Azur; one new route to the Czech Republic: Václav Havel Airport Prague; and one new route to Switzerland: Zurich.
The new routes will begin operating between March 31st and May 5th with two weekly flights, with the exception of Southampton which will operate just one. Seats are already on sale on the airline’s website, with the exception of Birmingham and London-Southend which will become available in the next few weeks.
The new routes will be operated by three Airbus 320 airliners which will be based at Alicante-Elche airport between March 31st and October 26th 2024, a base on the Costa Blanca that has been requested for several years after the opening of similar easyJet bases in Barcelona, Faro, Palma de Mallorca and Málaga.
The budget airline opened its first connection with the Costa Blanca in 1999 with a route that linked with London-Stansted. Since then, it has transported 27.5 million passengers in and out of Alicante-Elche and has consolidated itself as the second airline by passenger numbers after Ryanair.
In addition to these 11 new connections, easyJet will operate a record 22 routes at Alicante-Elche to five countries during the summer of 2024: the Czech Republic (Prague); France (Lille, Lyon, Nantes and Nice); the Netherlands (Amsterdam); Switzerland (Basel, Geneva and Zurich); and the United Kingdom (George Best Belfast City, Belfast International, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Liverpool John Lennon, London Gatwick, London Luton, London Southend, Manchester, Newcastle International and Southampton).
