COUNCIL BEGINS AWARENESS CAMPAIGN FOR NEW ORGANIC BINS
The new brown container is being gradually phased in across the municipality
The local council has launched an awareness campaign in preparation for the arrival of the new brown organic bins in the municipality. Mayoress Rosa Cardona and the councillor for Services, Juanjo García, joined with other councillors and representatives from TETMA, the private company responsible for rubbish collection in Xàbia, at a special stand at the weekly market to give out information about this new requirement for separation.
The mayoress admitted that the success of the implementation of the new brown bin is dependent on the help of the residents of the town, adding that Xàbia will benefit from learning to separate purely organic waste from the rest of their rubbish since the cost of waste treatment to the municipality will be reduced.
At the moment, the Department of Services and TETMA have launched the initial phases of implementing the brown bin in the town, installing containers in some of the ‘Punt Verds’ (the dedicated rubbish collection points) across the municipality as well as with large producers of waste, such as hotels and supermarkets. The implementation process will progressively expand to the rest of the ‘Punt Verds’ and to the three urban centres of Xàbia.
The Brown Bin · What to put in it
Using biodegradable bags, the following remains can be placed in the brown container:
- fruit and vegetable remains;
- meat and fish remains;
- egg shells; shellfish and nuts;
- other food scraps;
- coffee grounds and infusions;
- carboard stained with food scraps;
- kitchen paper;
- dirty napkins;
- small garden debris.
