The regional government in Valencia has signed a contract with Madrid-based construction company Licuas SA for the repair the eastern breakwater of the port of Xàbia, the section located on the old Pope beach close to the steep cliffs of the Cap de San Antoni headland. The formalization of the contract between the two parties took place earlier this week and grants the company three months to complete the work.

The project includes the consolidation of the section along which Restaurante Tangí is located and will result in the complete disappearance of the old beach, although very little remains these days. As reported a few months ago, this will involve the placement of several breakwater stones weighing up to 4.5 tons each along this section.

Since the work will be carried out within the boundaries of the Cap de Sant Antoni Marine Reserve, the company must carry out a series of precautionary and control measures to protect the environment.

A few weeks ago, it was reported that the Direccíon General de Puertos had contract an assessment of the effect of the work on the beach.
