The Comunidad Valenciana recorded its highest number of international tourism during 2024, according to the results of the surveys published by the National Institute of Statistics (INE) regarding Tourist Movements at the Border (FRONTUR) and the Tourist Expenditure Survey (EGATUR).

The data published by the INE show the results of foreign arrivals and their spending up to November 2024. These results show that international tourists who visited the Comunidad Valenciana between January and November 2024 passed 11.2 million (11,270,842), an increase of 15.5% year-on-year. Furthermore, the data confirms that foreign tourists spent 14.3 billion euros during the first 11 months of 2024, which represents an increase of 22.7% compared to 2023.

The regional minister for Innovation, Industry, Trade and Tourism, Marián Cano, confirmed that the numbers are already record-breaking, even with the month of December still to be considered, adding that the figures also substantiate the position of the region as a tourist destination in international markets, stressing that “we will continue to work on the international promotion of [the Comunidad Valenciana], both in established markets and in other emerging markets”.

It should be noted that during the whole of 2023, 10.5 million foreign tourists visited the Comunidad Valenciana and during the first 11 months of 2024 that figure has already been exceeded, registering a new high in the number of international tourists.

In addition, the INE data shows that in November alone, the region registered a total of 680,693 foreign visitors, which represents an increase of 4.2% year-on-year. In terms of tourist spending, international visitors spent more than 850 million euros in November, 15.8% more than the previous year.

Cano also highlighted that the most important source market continues to be the United Kingdom with more than 2.7 million British tourists arriving between January and November 2024, 11.3% more than the previous year, followed by France (2.1 million tourists, an increase of 16.1% on 2023).

The most notable increase is seen in the Nordic countries with a year-on-year variation of 18.2%, followed by the Netherlands with an increase of 18.1% compared to the same period in 2023.
