CF Javea Ontinyent 02

The board, players and staff at CD Jávea are calling for the town to turn out in force for this Sunday’s crunch match against UE Tavernes, the final home game of a season in which the club has been embroiled in a relegation battle. And to encourage as many people as possible to come down to the municipal football stadium this Sunday at 6.00pm, entrance is FREE for all.

After the euphoria of qualification for the inaugural Lliga Comunitat at the end of last season, the rojiblancos have struggled in the new elite regional league, struggling in the bottom three for much of the season and seemingly almost certain for the first relegation for almost three decades. It’s not that they’ve been a poor side – they have produced some stunning football at times – but some bad luck and an apparent lack of confidence at times has affected the team.

However, a superb run in the last few weeks, which has included a stunning home defeat of champions CF Benidorm and an incredible 4-1 away win at CF Independiente Alicante, has given the club a real chance of avoiding the drop. With two games remaining, there is now a relegation battle between seven sides, including CD Jávea and CD Dénia.

This Sunday’s final home game, kick-off 6.00pm, sees UE Tavernes make the short journey down the motorway. Sitting in 7th spot, their bid for a promotion play-off spot is already over, having been let down by their away form which is only just one point better than CD Jávea. Over the past five games, the sides are equal – 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat – and the rojiblancos are on a huge wave of confidence at the moment.

The final game of last season, in which a victory against champions Ontinyent 1931 CF would ensure qualification for the new tier league, saw almost 1,500 people turn out to cheer on the rojiblancos to a stunning 2-1 victory and the club are hoping that a similar turnout will do the job again this Sunday.
