Over the past few weeks, the local council and the municipal water company AMJASA have been working on refurbishing an old warehouse owned by the water company to turn it into a space with all the amenities to accommodate a fire fighting unit, such as a kitchen, living room, bathroom with shower and a terrace.
Thus, it is expected that from Friday 1st July to Friday 30th September, Xàbia will have a permanent base for firefighters equipped with a heavy rural fire truck for the first time. This reinforcement aims to improve the response to operational needs and reduce the response time during the few months in which the population of the municipality increases significantly and the risk of fires, both urban and forest, traffic accidents and mountain rescues increases.
The base is located in the strategic point in the Pla zone which provides a fast connection to all three urban centres – the town, the port, and the Arenal – as well as to the forest masses in the southern extremes of the municipality which are the furthest away from the permanent fire station which is based in Dénia. The base is also very close to the emergency heliport located just a few hundred metres away on the other side of the river.
