The choral group ARS NOVA and its junior section PETIT ARS will be performing their traditional December concert “El Nadal” this Sunday 18th December at 11.00am inside the church of the Convento de las Agustinas in Placeta del Convent. This is an essential performance for the people of Xàbia who will enjoy a delightful polyphonic repertoire whilst also admiring the work of the children of PETITS ARS.
This year’s performance will feature excerpts from the Cant de la Sibil·la as an opening, a liturgical drama and Gregorian chant in Catalan from the Middle Ages which speaks of the arrival of the Messiah. The choir will then perform El Noi de la Mare, arranged by Eduard Toldrà, a tender Catalan Christmas song as well as a lullaby. They will also perform La Nadalenca, a humorous and festive song by the Valencian maestro Manuel Palau.
Next ARS NOVA and PETIT ARS will perform the Christmas cantata Fes-te el Pessebre by Lluís Vila which is based on the poems of Gabriel Genescà, a composition encouraging intergenerational participation through choral music which aims to update our Christmas traditions. The concert will continue with the sweet solo voices of PETIT ARS, singing A La Nanina Nana, a piece that originates from a composition for piano and voice by Josep Ramón Gomis from Novelda.
The concert will conclude with ARS NOVA and PETIT ARS joining together once again to sing John Rutter’s Christmas Lullaby and the Christmas carol Adeste Fideles.
The concert will be conducted by maestro Rubén Penadès and will feature a piano performance by Sílvia Ferrer.
