Fogueres 2024 Elections

Preparations for the 75th anniversary edition of the Fogueres de Sant Joan, arguably the biggest party of the year in Xàbia, are starting to accelerate with the election of the top representatives on Saturday night in a packed sports hall at the Palau d’Esports Miguel Buigues Andrés.

This emotional night formally presented the young people of the Quintà 2024 who will be the main protagonists in next June’s big occasion. During the evening, they cast their votes to choose their main representatives, including the Fogueres Queen, her ladies-in-waiting and their two presidents.

In addition, the smallest were able to get involved with the presentation of the Junior Committee who will work alongside the main organising committee to ensure that the very youngest are represented during the fiesta. And, of course, nine young girls placed their names into a pot to become the Infantil Queen and her ladies-in-waiting.

More than 130 members of Quintà 2024, all coming of age next year, were presented by name, all taking to the stage to great applause and cheers from family and friends. Dressed in their finest, their smiles stretched wide, they took it all in their stride, acknowledging the adulation, waving back at the huge audience.

After a break which was enlivened by a performance by the dancers from Footworks and a fashion show featuring clothes designed by Rubén Bisquert, the emotional night gathered momentum as it approached the time to announce the names of those who will be the main representatives of Fogueres de Sant Joan 2024.

In the Infantil Court, Claudia Barragán Rodríguez was chosen as the Infantil Queen, her name pulled out of the pot by the 2023 Queen Júlia Leyda. Claudia will be accompanied by her two ladies-in-waiting Lucía Bisquert Cholbi and Gisela Esquinas Devesa.

The Juvenil Commision will be led by its presidents Lucas Mata Devesa and Laura Sánchez.

Finally, at just after half past midnight, the most anticipated moment of the evening arrived with the opening of the envelopes which contained the names of the highest representatives of the Fogueres de Sant Joan 2024 and its Quintà. For the first time during the entire evening, a nervous hush swept across the sports hall as those holding office in 2023 announced the names.

To an enormous cheer, the name of Angela Tachó Llidó was read out as the Fogueres Queen 2024 by current queen Arantxa Pons and she will be accompanied by Nail Sánchez and Nerea Vidal Alentado.

The presidents of Quintà 2024 are Jaime Valverde Ortuño and Júlia Roselló.

The elections were the first to be attended by mayoress Rosa Cardona, who was accompanied by the councillor responsible for Fiestas, Mavi Pérez, and the new president of the Fogueres Commission Carmen Andrés.

As is tradition, the members of Quintà 2024 will be informally presenting itself to the town on the evening of Saturday 4th November when it does a fun, music-filled parade through the streets. And then the young people will be assisting the Fogueres Commission in preparing to mark the 75th anniversary of the biggest party in town in suitable style.
