AMJASA REPLACED SOME 13 KILOMETRES OF PIPE DURING 2023
Peak consumption occurred on August 4, with 26,000 m3 injected into the water network
The municipal water company AMJASA has released details of its annual report for its activities during 2023 during which a total of 5,950,000 cubic metres of water was injected into the distribution network and a number of different strategic objectives were met.
The report recorded that the year’s peak consumption occurred on Friday 4th August when some 26,000 cubic metres was injected into the system to meet demand. On the same day, another 1,587 cubic metres of water was transferred to the Consorcio Teulada-Benitatxell as a part of the solidarity agreement with neighbouring municipalities.
The report said that the 55% of the water injected into the network was drawn from the company’s own water wells whilst the remaining 45% came from the company’s desalination plant. Overall, the water availability in Xàbia in assured because of desalination technology, which has a capacity to produce 30,000 cubic metres a day, but the region as a whole is currently suffering from pre-alert drought indicators in the levels of the regional aquifers.
In terms of investment, AMJASA has continued with its network renewal plan with more than 40 projects replacing 13 linear kilometres of pipe, work that has been carried out in collaboration with local companies, whilst seven new solar panel stations and a wind station providing a total of 52kw of energy have been installed.
In addition, the company has installed 7,000 new water meters, bringing the total to 16,000, and subscribers to the service have exceeded 29,000.
