It has been reported that 97.9% of classes at more than 1,800 publicly-funded education centres across the Comunidad Valenciana finished last week without any new incidence of COVID-19. And 73.3% of those centres reached the end of the week without any classroom confinement.
During the week January 25th to 29th – the 18th week of the school year – 474 bubble groups in 195 centres have been confined, 200 less than the previous week. A further 487 groups from 183 centres came out of confinement whilst 497 groups from 298 centres remain in confinement. Therefore, the total number of confined groups at the end of last week stood at 971 groups from 493 centres.
Of the 818,644 students at Nursery, Primary, Secondary, Bachillerato and FP levels, the total number of students who are currently positive is 6,382, 0.8% of the total, whilst some 1.6% of the 78,434 teachers in the Valencian educational system, a total of 1,239, have also tested positive.
Alicante
On a regional level, 73.7% of the education centres in the Province of Alicante do not have any confined groups, whilst 168 centres have 324 confined groups between them, meaning that 98% of nearly 16,700 groups are receiving face-to-face teaching as normal. Of the 297,281 students enrolled in the Alicante region, 0.9% have tested positive, 2,751 students. With the establishment of protocols and security measures, preventive isolation has been established, due to being close contacts with positives, of 2.9% of students. Regarding teachers, of the 27,694 teachers in the Alicante regions, 1.9% were positive, 518 teachers. Furthermore, with the application of strict prevention and protection measures for close contacts with active positives, the preventive isolation of 1.1% of the teaching staff has been determined.
The stabilization of cases being detected in the educational sector have prompted cautious appreciation from the Ministry of Education and it would seem that the main source of positive cases is coming from the social field. With all the measures and protocols established in schools which help to reduce the risk of infection transmission, it seems that 90% of cases detected have been transmitted outside of the educational field.
