The Alicante Provincial Council, through its Special Access Improvement Plan promoted by Compromís, will be providing the funding to build a new roundabout at the junction of Carrer Benitatxell (CV-740) and Camí de les Cansalades, a historial demand to improve safety on roads in the province.
The provincial council member Gerard Fullana (Compromís) visited the blackspot with the mayor of El Poble Nou del Benitatxell, Miguel Ángel García (Més Benitatxell), a junction where numerous accidents have occurred in recent years. A new roundabout is intended to regulate traffic safely and stop accidents.
After various meetings between the town hall in Benitatxell and council staff, the provincial council has put aside some 8,000 euros from the 2022 budget for the drafting of the project and it is expected that work will be carried out during the second half of 2023.
“We all know the junction of Cansalades with the Xàbia road very well. We know the number of accidents that have unfortunately occurred and we know the urgent need it represents for our town to have the correct infrastructure so that it stops being a black spot on our roads“, said the mayor, who has thanked Fullana for his work so that this investment reaches El Poble Nou de Benitatxell.
For his part, the provincial councillor explained that this special plan “includes a proposal to improve access in towns that was very necessary, especially for municipalities such as Poble Nou, where there are accesses where accidents regularly occur“.
The improvement of this access has been demanded in El Poble Nou de Benitatxell for many years. In fact, the provincial council had already planned a large-scale action to improve this section of the road, which runs from the Benitatxell road to the intersection of Camí Cabanes de Xàbia and is approximately 5 km long.
However, thanks to the proposal of the current government team to separate this work from the roundabout of the large project, the action has fitted into this line of the Special Plan for Access Improvement.
