“You are from Xàbia, so give me a recommendation on where to go to eat a good rice dish.” With respect to all the restaurateurs of Xàbia, one could think: “At home, the one that my grandmother or mother makes”.

For many years, visitors have come to Xàbia to sample the wide range of rice dishes that local restaurants offer. The photo of a rice dish, a traditional recipe inherited from Valencian gastronomy, taken next to the sea, with the pines and carob trees swaying in the gentle breeze, the rays of the sun filtering through the reed roof or entering the naya; it is idyllic indeed, worthy of a postcard. Or, indeed, a special post on Instagram.

Alejandro Sanz, winner of 22 Latin Grammy Awards and 4 Grammy Awards is no different. Recently, the 52-year-old singer published a photo holding a lobster paella on his Instagram profile, a rice dish that he was about to enjoy. Although there is no location given with the photo, there are elements which are incomparable, even with just a glancing look. It could be in Formentera, Menorca, or some stronghold on the Costa Brava. But, no! It is the Costa Blanca. And it is Xàbia. The part of Portitxol island and its inseperable islet in the background is unmistakable.

It is well known that Xàbia is a popular destination for visitors and many of them are from the world of cinema, television and music who come to enjoy the local cuisine, among other attractions. Of course, Sanz’s paella provides a perfect image of the town, as reflected in the comments accompanying the post.
