Friday 2nd July 2021 – PRESS RELEASE with Mike Smith

The forecast for average occupancy for hotels along the coast of the Comunidad Valenciana during the month of July is around 57.2%, which is 26.8% more than in 2020. This figure has been derived from the Summer Season Occupancy Survey which has been carried out by Turisme Comunitat Valenciana with a representative sample of hotels in the region.

The regional secretary for Tourism, Francesc Colomer, said that “COVID-19 has greatly delayed the choice of destination for the tourist so the actual occupation figure for this summer depends of last-minute bookings“.

He explained that the forecasts show that “there is a certain dynamism and, although we can’t compare with the figures for 2019, the pre-pandemic year, it will be a reasonably more dynamic summer than 2020, although it is difficult to make forecasts because demand has changed and now last-minute bookings are becoming more frequent“.

He added that “yesterday the EU COVID-19 Digital Certificate began to be used and we hope that it will increase the arrival of foreign tourists to the Comunidad Valenciana” and he hoped that it will allow the region to be optimistic for the recovery of an important part of the international market, “without which it is very difficult to understand our tourism model“.

Finally, Colomer stressed that “2021 will be a summer of transition, dynamism and some recovery, but also a lot of responsibility and prudence“, stressed that “the sector has made a huge effort to build confidence, so think that prudent and responsible tourism is mow more than every part of the response to the emotional recovery we need as a society“.
