The regional health ministry plans to administer more than 120,000 doses of the vaccine against COVID 19 this week. For the group of people over 80 years old, 65,175 doses are planned (50,000 first doses and 15,175 second). These figures represent an increase of 81% with respect to the number of doses administered the previous week, which shows that the rate of immunization in this group is accelerating.
Vaccination for this priority group began the last week of February in the Comunidad Valenciana. Now, once the majority of nursing home residents and social health personnel have been cared for, the national vaccination strategy focuses all efforts on the 80-year-old group because the main international studies point out that the elderly are those who have the most possibilities of developing a serious cases of the disease.
In addition, more than 50,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine are planned for teaching staff this week. The rest of the doses will go to people belonging to other priority groups who, due to various circumstances (such as, active infections, quarantines or isolations), have pending immunization.
This week, the Comunidad Valenciana has received 12,000 doses of AstraZeneca, 67,860 of Pfizer and 39,000 of Moderna.
