Xàbia Council has received a total of 303 requests for aid through the ‘Paréntesis’ initiative which is aimed at the sectors most affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The vast majority of requests have come from the self-employed and small businesses linked to the restaurant sector. However, there have also been requests received from hotels and campsites, tourist companies, gyms and sports activities, the culture and events sector, and street trading.

The 1.5 million euro series of grants, which range from a minimum of 2,000 euros plus 200 euros per employee, are being jointly financed by the town hall in Xàbia, the Generalitat Valenciana and the Diputación de Alicante, and are designed to minimize the impact that the restrictions to activity imposed during the pandemic have had on business.

Xàbia Council has offered all means to advise and support the possible beneficiaries of this funding in the application process and a specific office was opened to answer questions or related queries, in addition to directly informing the consultancies that operate in the town. To date, the office has attended to a total of 288 enquiries.

Parallel to the processing of these grants, the Xàbia Council is working on creating a general regulatory by-law for any line of municipal action raised through the subsidy activity.

One of the main objectives of this ordinance is to speed up administrative procedures and gain response capacity in situations such as those experienced by the local economy in which it is urgent to inject liquidity into companies.
