The state meteorological agency AEMET has issued a YELLOW risk warning for the potential of heavy rain on Sunday 7th March. Forecast models are suggesting that the entire coastline of the Alicante province is likely to be affected, with a 40%-70% probability of accumulated precipitation of 20 litres per hour, most likely around the middle of the day.

In general, the rainfall will be light to moderate in most areas, with periods of localised intense rain accompanied by storms, most likely in the Vega Baja and Marina Alta areas and possibly along the southern coastline of the province of Valencia. At times, the accumulation rate could be 60 litres per 12 hours in some places, perhaps higher on occasions.

It should be remembered that these warnings are issued for probability, not certainty. It seems most likely that the rains will be light to moderate but some models do not rule out intense localised rain in places.
