Regional Health Minister Ana Barceló has confirmed that the Comunidad Valenciana will receive a total of 272,610 doses of the Pfizer vaccine against the coronavirus during the month of March. On March 1, the pharmaceutical company will send 52,650 doses of the vaccine and over the following weeks it will increase shipments to 54,990. This vaccine will be aimed at groups of people over 80 years of age.
The AstraZeneca firm has already confirmed that it will send a total of 1.8 million doses to Spain during February, although the distribution to autonomous communities has not yet been finalized. For its part, Moderna will deliver 8,700 doses for next week. In the Comunidad Valenciana, these vaccines will be destined, for the moment, to health personnel, thus reserving the doses of Pfizer for people over 80 years of age.
With these figures, the Ministry of Health’s planning for next week involves concluding the process of administering second doses to the corresponding people (who received the first jab three weeks before) and continuing to advance the vaccination procedure at a faster rate for both public and private health personnel.
The forecast is that in most homes for the elderly and those with impaired mobility, both doses of the vaccine will have been administered and that all will have received at least the first dose by the end of next week.
So far, the Comunidad Valenciana has received 182,690 doses of the vaccine, of which 174,501 have already been administered, representing 95.5% of the total received. Barceló stressed that, with the increase in shipments by pharmaceutical companies, “we will reach the goal that by the end of March there will be 300,000 people vaccinated in the Comunidad Valenciana“.
