Xàbia Goalkeeper Adrián Ortolá has signed for Girona FC in the Second Division. Ortolá began the 20/21 season with CD Tenerife, who play at the same level, and made 16 league and cup appearances between the sticks for the Blanquiazules but decided to take advantage of the winter market and, at the last minute, opted for a change of scene and headed for Girona FC, who are currently 9th in the Second Division table.
As XAD has learned, the signing took place right at the last minute, until at 8.00pm on Monday evening, after “a tug of war” between the Catalan team and the player’s representatives, Ortolá signed the agreement. Shortly after Girona contacted the team that plays for Heliodoro Rodríguez López and they agreed on a transfer.
On Tuesday, 27-year-old Ortolá and his partner traveled to Barcelona, where after passing the medical examination, he will head to Girona, where he will be presented and will be under the direction of Francisco Rodríguez.
On their social networks, Girona FC announced that goalkeeper Adrián Ortolá has signed for the remainder of the season and two more seasons.
Ortolá closes his relationship with CAD Tenerife after making 51 league appearances and a further four in the Copa del Rey since joining in the summer of 2019. The former UEFA U-19 European Championship winner – twice in 2011 and 2012 – has previously played for Deportivo La Coruña, FC Barcelona, Deportivo Alavés, and Villarreal CF, making 159 appearances in total.
