7 new infections in Xàbia; Marina Alta records 47
Xàbia
Xàbia has recorded 7 new infections over the weekend, bringing the total number to 218 since the crisis began. The 14-day cumulative rate (IA) has continued to drop, now standing at 90.57 new infections per 100,000. The death toll remains at 3.
Marina Alta
The Dénia Health Authority, which covers almost all of the Marina Alta region, has recorded 47 new infections since the last update bringing the total to 1,828 positive cases since the crisis began.
The 14-day IA rate has risen slightly to 111.08 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants. It is still one of the lowest rates in the whole Comunidad Valenciana, only improved on by La Marina Baixa (63.68).
The death toll in the Marina Alta remains at 34 .

Comunidad Valenciana
The latest figures published by the Ministry of Health (Nº 251) show that the 14-day IA rate in the Comunidad Valenciana has dropped to 284.29 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants, but that rate has risen by 26% in two weeks during a period when many regions in Spain have been dropping; only in Asturias (+56%) and Cantabria (+33%) has the infection been spreading more quickly.
The occupancy of beds in general hospital and ICU wards remains at Level 4 in the Comunidad Valenciana, the maximum level of the national COVID-19 risk assessment system, which means that the general occupation has exceeded 15% of patients admitted with COVID-19, whilst almost 30% of ICU beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients, according to data supplied in Nº 251 of the Ministry of Health report.
Across the Comunidad Valenciana, the 14-day IA rate has dropped in 16 of the 24 health authorities. La Marina Baix has seen its rate drop by 32% in the past 14 days, whilst at the other end of the scale, Vinarós in the province of Castellón has seen their rate rise by 132% in two weeks.

The national 14-day IA rate has dropped for the fifth successive report and now stands at 470.26 new infections per 100,000 population, the lowest rate for a few weeks, falling in all but two regions, confirming a general downward trend in nearly all regions and territories, whilst the pressure on ICU units is also beginning to ease.
Over the past two weeks, both Navarra and the autonomous city of Melilla have seen their IA rates drop by half, whilst Cataluña (-27%) and the Region of Madrid (-23%) have also seen their rates drop as the effect of the restrictive measures on those regions become more apparent.
Fernando Simón, the director of the Health Ministry’s Coordination Center for Health Alerts (CCAES), said that the fall in the number of new cases could be a sign that the country is entering a period of stabilization and that the curve is beginning to fall, but warned against considering “the trend to be a victory” as the national 14-day IA rate of over 470 is still well above the EU’s maximum of 60, the ceiling at which the pandemic is considered as being under control. Based on the downward trend of the IA rate, it is estimated that it will take another three months to return to the level it was at in June when the nation emerged from a national lockdown.
More than 61% of respondents to a survey carried out by newspaper El País would support a second home lockdown if it was needed to contain the pandemic, whilst 72% believed that the health of the nation should be prioritized over the economy. Most people admitted that they were weary of the pandemic but willing to make sacrifices, with most respondents claiming that they have changed their habits to help flatten the curve, including not going out as much and reducing their social life.
