Comunidad Valenciana

The latest figures published by the Ministry of Health (Nº 249) show that the 14-day IA rate in the Comunidad Valenciana has been rising throughout the week and now stands at 297.20 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants, a rise of 43% in two weeks. There is a clear upward trend in the region in terms of the spread of the infection and active cases have passed the 15,000 mark for the first time.

The occupancy of beds in general hospital and ICU wards remains at Level 4 in the Comunidad Valenciana, the maximum level of the national COVID-19 risk assessment system, which means that the general occupation has exceeded 15% of patients admitted with COVID-19, whilst more than 25% of ICU beds are occupied by COVID-19 patients, according to data supplied in Nº 249 of the Ministry of Health report.

In a complete contrast to the last update, across the region, 18 of the 24 health authorities have seen their 14-day IA rates rise during the week, in particular La Ribera, whose rate has climbed by over 75% since Tuesday!

Spain

The national 14-day IA rate has risen been dropping all week and now stands at 504.45 new infections per 100,000 population, the lowest rate since the end of October, falling in 12 regions, confirming a general downward trend. However, Spain’s official COVID-19 death toll has risen above 40,000 this week.

Fernando Simón, director of the Health Ministry’s Coordination Center for Health Alerts (CCAES), said that the situation was still very complicated across the country but added that “the evolution indicates a stabilization and a fall in some regions.” However, he warned that the numbers continue to be very high: “We can’t allow these figures to be sustained, as they will still have an impact on the health system, both in the occupation of regular hospital beds as well as intensive care beds“. But he said that he didn’t believe that another national confinement would be necessary – at the moment.

One region remains above 1,000 new infections per 100,000 residents over the last 14 days but Melilla’s rate is dropping. Just five regions saw rises in their IA rates yesterday: Comunidad Valenciana, Asturias, Cantabria, País Vasco and Castilla y León. Those regions which have had extra restrictive measures imposed by their governments have seen significant drops in the spread of the virus over the past two weeks: Navarra has dropped by 30%, by 24%, and Cataluña by 10%. In a bid to maintain to the move in the right direction, Cataluña has extended the closure of its bars and restaurants to Monday 23rd November.

From Monday 23rd November, Spain will require travellers arriving in the country to provide a verified negative PCR test, taken no more than three days before arrival. This currently applies to more than 60 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, the Netherlands, Ireland, France, Belgium, Italy, Argentina, Switzerland, and Russia.
