Nine new positives in Xàbia but cases across the Marina Alta drop by more than 50%

Xàbia has recorded 9 new infections over the weekend, bringing the total number to 188 since the crisis began. The 14-day cumulative rate (IA) rises to 83.32 new infections per 100,000. The death toll remains at 3.
Marina Alta
The Dénia Health Authority, which covers the Marina Alta region, has recorded 42 new infections over the weekend bringing the total to 1,605 positive cases since the crisis began.
The 14-day IA rate now stands at 105.97 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants, a rise of 14.46% on the previous figure. It is still one of the lowest rates in the whole Comunidad Valenciana, only improved on by Manises (103.76) and La Marina Baixa (93.35).
The death toll in the Marina Alta remains at 30.
The new infections have been recorded in the following municipalities:

- Calp – 7
- Poble Nou de Benitatxell – 3
- Benissa – 2
- Pego – 2
- Beniarbeig – 1
- El Ràfol d’Almunia – 1
- Els Poblets – 1
- Ondara – 1
- Teulada – 1
NOTE: A detailed analysis of the data released by regional health ministry show that there have been 42 new positive cases, not 43, and that the total number of infections in the Marina Alta region since the crisis began stands at 1.605, not 1,604 as stated in the report. There has been no explanation for this discrepancy in reported figures.
Comunidad Valenciana
The latest figures published by the Ministry of Health (Nº 241) show that the 14-day IA rate in the Comunidad Valenciana has slightly dropped over the weekend by some 2.45% to 225.79. Active cases have dropped to 11,791 from its peak last Friday of 13,284.
However, the percentage of hospital beds in the region being occupied by COVID-19 patients has risen to the point of placing the region’s hospital status in the High Risk category.
In terms of health authority IA rates, La Plana in the Castellón Province has seen its rate double over the weekend to 241.91 whilst the rate in Castelló, in the same province, is up by more than a third to 215.89. In the Alicante Province, the health authority of Gandía has seen its IA rate rise by over 30% to 252.03. Elda remains the health authority with the worst IA rate, rising almost 17% to 564.35.
On a more positive note, the IA rate has fallen in varying degrees in nine of the region’s 24 health authorities, including Torrevieja, Elx, Manises and La Ribera.
Ximo Puig, president of the Generalitat Valenciana, has confirmed that the closure of the region’s land borders will be extended, a decision he considered to be “the reasonable thing [to do]” since it is still too early to see any results of the measure which was imposed last Friday.
Although the Generalitat Valenciana is not considering confining its residents to their homes at this moment, it continues to monitor those municipalities which have the highest IA rates and one municipality – Nules – has already requested that the regional government sanctions home confinement and allow it to close its perimeters.
Spain
The national 14-day IA rate has climbed to 521.67 new infections per 100,000 population, a 61% rise in two weeks, with the enclave city of Melilla (1,356.27) still leading the way. Navarra (1193.49) saw its IA rate rise by just 0.5% over the weekend, suggesting that the regional lockdown is beginning to work, whilst Aragón crossed 1,000 threshold as expected and its 14-day IA rate now sits at 1127.04 and continues to rise. Down in the south, Andalusia has seen its rate increase by almost 23% over the weekend, by far the biggest rise since the last available figures. At the other end of the table, the infection rate continues to drop in Madrid (403.58 -6.57% over two weeks) and the Comunidad Valenciana (225.79) and Canarias (76.44) have also seen their rates decline.
A request from the regional government of Asturias to confine its residents to their homes for 15 days has been denied by the Spanish government, who have told the leaders in the northern region that they must wait to see if current restrictions lower transmission rates. However, regional premier Adrián Barbón has announced that non-essential activity will cease from this Wednesday and the night-time curfew is being brought forward to 10.00pm and both will be in place for an initial 15-day period.
Other regions which have considered a brief home confinement include Melilla, which has the highest 14-day IA rate, and Castilla y León (828.86).
