Seven candidates intend to bid for the construction of public housing in Xàbia
“Housing is an absolute priority for this government, and we are going to exhaust all possible avenues to ensure that Xàbia, for the first time in many years, has public housing.”

A total of seven companies have submitted their bids for the construction of social housing in Xàbia, as part of the Plan VIVE, an initiative jointly promoted by the Generalitat Valenciana and Xàbia Council.
The bidding process was launched after the signing of the transfer of municipal plots located near CEIP Tren d’Alba. The project is part of a public-private partnership model through which public land is tendered on a swap basis in exchange for future construction work. The winning companies must deliver a certain number of social housing units in the swap.
The governing team in Xàbia led by mayor Rosa Cardona has expressed its firm commitment to the creation of social housing in the municipality. Initially, the local government’s intention was to promote the construction of publicly subsidized rental housing, but the tender process was unsuccessful due to a lack of interest from construction companies. Given this situation, it opted for a protected sale option, which has attracted interest from developers.
“Housing is an absolute priority for this government, and we are going to exhaust all possible avenues to ensure that Xàbia, for the first time in many years, has public housing. We know the need exists in our municipality and are working with all available tools to offer solutions,” Cardona said.
Along these lines, the local council has amended the bylaws of the municipal water company AMJASA so that it can also promote public housing. Furthermore, thanks to the collaboration with the Regional Government, the project to build these homes, guaranteeing access to affordable housing for its residents, has become a reality.
