PP Xàbia: “We are all tired of this media circus”
The Partido Popular responds to opposition accusations by claiming that the socialists are refusing to join the common effort to finally open the municipal swimming pool.

After the extraordinary plenary session yesterday morning (Thursday) and the response of the PSOE socialist opposition in a damning statement released later in the day, the Partido Popular de Xàbia posted its own statement on Thursday evening in which it said that “politics must be based on responsibility and respect for the truth, and not on manipulation or self-serving misinformation” and accused the socialists of opting for “a strategy based on confrontation and manipulation instead of joining the common effort to offer real solutions to citizens“.
The municipal swimming pool has yet to open its doors to the public almost a year after construction was completed and the infrastructure handed over to the local council. The government body had explained that more than 70 faults had been identified since, all of which had to be resolved before the doors could be opened to the public, whilst the socialist opposition claimed that there was no reason for the pool to remain closed and that the delay was actually down to poor management after taking responsibility for the facility.
In its statement released yesterday afternoon, the socialists claimed that “almost a year after accepting the work as finished, there are no hired monitors, lifeguards, janitors, regulated maintenance or rules of use, all of them necessary elements to open the installation” and even claimed that “an overwhelming majority of the alleged defects cited for not opening a facility that cost 6 million euros are minor things compatible with public use and easy to repair“.

In response, the PP released the following statement:
“The Partido Popular of Xàbia expresses our surprise and deep discomfort at the attitude of the PSOE in relation to such an important issue for our municipality as the municipal swimming pool. We believe that politics must be based on responsibility and respect for the truth, and not on manipulation or self-serving misinformation.
The government team has been working intensively for months to resolve the problems presented by this facility, which was received in April last year, and to guarantee that its opening complies with all technical and regulatory requirements. It is not, as the PSOE would have us believe, a question of poor management (which is what any opposition says when it does not know what to say) but rather a technical reality that demands responsible solutions.
It is unacceptable that the government team is accused of a lack of transparency when all the available information has been given, with municipal technical reports accessible to any citizen who wants to consult them. To claim that there are no reports is simply not telling the truth, and the PP has already dismantled these unfounded claims with evidence.

It is equally worrying that there is an attempt to generate controversy over the calling of a municipal plenary session, insinuating hidden intentions when it has been scheduled in compliance with the law and in accordance with the institutional agenda. The mayor and the government team have responsibilities that go beyond the demands of the opposition and they work day in and day out for the municipality.
Regarding the municipal swimming pool, the reality is clear: there are essential deficiencies that must be resolved before it opens. The lack of a channel, generating puddles and leaks, for example, prevents it from complying with safety and accessibility regulations, as the competent Public Health technicians have already confirmed. It is not a problem of maintenance, lifeguards or any other argument that the PSOE tries to use to misinform and generate confusion. It is not a question of whether there are reports or not, it is a question of the fact that it does NOT comply with the official regulations and therefore Public Health has warned that it cannot be opened until it is resolved.
The PP deeply regrets that the PSOE has opted for a strategy based on confrontation and manipulation instead of joining the common effort to offer real solutions to citizens. In just three weeks they have released many statements with the sole objective of sowing doubts and discrediting the municipal government. It is not about contributing to the well-being of the municipality, but about politically wearing it down regardless of the consequences.
The citizens of Xàbia do not deserve this climate of artificial tension. They deserve a government and opposition that works, that manages effectively and that offers real solutions, not sterile debates or unproductive political confrontations. Therefore, the PP remains firm in our commitment to make the municipal swimming pool a reality as soon as possible, with all the guarantees of quality and safety that our residents deserve.”
