The state meteorological agency AEMET has issued a risk warning of the potential for heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms in the Marina Alta region for Thursday 16th January and Friday 17th January 2025.

Thursday 16th January 2025 – Yellow · Heavy Rain (12:00-23:59)

From 12.00 midday on Thursday 15th January, there is a 40%-70% probability of heavy rain in our area with a potential accumulation rate of 20mm in an hour and 60mm in 12 hours at times. The showers could be accompanied by thunderstorms at times whilst hail could also fall locally. The risk will remain valid until 11:59 Friday (see below).

Friday 17th January 2025 – Yellow · Heavy Rain (00:00-11:59) / Stormy Seas (12:00-23:59)

The risk for heavy rain will continue into Friday and remain valid until 11:59. From midday, a separate yellow warning comes into force for a 40%-70% probability for stormy seas along the coast with Force 7 (50-60 km/h) winds producing waves up to 3m in height. The risk will remain valid until 23:59 on the same day.

What do the risk levels mean?

🟡 AEMET will issue a yellow warning when, although there is no risk to the general public, there is a risk for some specific activities, especially those outdoors, and advises that the public remains alert and stays informed of the most up-to-date weather forecasts. However, the issuance of such a warning does not mean that the situation will definitely happen but that there is an identifiable risk that it will do so.
