The First Vice President and Councillor for Social Services, Equality and Housing, Susana Camarero, attended the signing before a notary between the Valencian Housing and Land Entity (EVha) and Xàbia Council for the free transfer of three municipal plots for the construction of 64 public housing units by exchange for future construction.

The general director of the EVha, Estefanía Martínez, and the mayor of Xàbia, Rosa Cardona, have formalised the signing of the transfer of these plots that will allow the creation of protected housing, within the commitment of the regional government to promote affordable housing in Xàbia and throughout the Comunidad Valenciana.

The project is part of the Plan Vive promoted by the Generalitat Valenciana whose objective is the mobilisation of available public land, both regional and municipal, for the construction of protected housing.

The vice president said that during the month of December the construction of 1,675 protected homes was put out to tender in 12 municipalities of the Comunidad Valenciana, among which are the 64 homes in Xàbia and whose deadline for submitting offers ends on March 13.

She assured that the regional government “continues working to respond to one of the great concerns of citizens, which is the lack of housing. We are aware of the problem of access to housing suffered by young people and other sectors of the population and all our efforts are directed towards that“.

It should be remembered that the new decree on Public Protection Housing (VPP) of the Generalitat Valenciana assures 40% of protected housing is reserved for young people under 35 years of age and the income is adjusted to facilitate access to these properties.

The plots of land in Xàbia that have been ceded are located in an area close to CEIP Trenc d’Alba in the Pou del Moro I neighbourhood, one in Carrer del Poeta José Albi where the construction of 42 homes is planned, and the other two in Carrer Garcilaso de la Vega on which around 22 homes will be built.

Public-Private Collaboration

The deed that has been signed implies the modification of the free transfer of these three plots by Xàbia Council and that, from now on, they will be used exclusively for the construction of public housing. This action will be carried out through public-private collaboration, which involves bidding through exchange in exchange for future work on public land for the construction of protected housing under a sale regime.

The companies that are awarded the contract will deliver, in exchange, a certain number of housing units. With this, the public administrations will increase their housing stock that they can allocate to affordable rentals.

Camarero explained that “throughout this year we will publish new tenders that will allow us to fulfil our commitment to achieve, within the Plan Vive, the construction of 10,000 homes during this legislature“. To this end, he stressed the importance of the collaboration of the local councils and the Generalitat Valenciana in order to mobilise and make available the majority of the available public land.
