Registration opens for 2025 edition of Xàbia’s Non-Competitive Women’s Race
This year the donations will go to the Aldis Paiporta, an association that works with disabled people which lost its headquarters and all its materials due to the DANA.
The 2025 edition of the Cursa de la Dona Xàbia, a non-competitive event which raises money for associations in the region, will be held on Sunday 16th February. And the councillor responsible for Equality, Raquel Violera (PP), explained that the event coincides with the Valentine’s Day weekend this year, highlighting the beauty of the message it conveys. “It is an event that opens the programme for March 8 and reminds us of the need to love ourselves, since it is the only way to love others and make others love us in a healthy way“.
The event is a charity race and this year it has been decided to allocate the funds raised to the Asociación Aldis, located in Paiporta, which works with disabled people to improve their inclusion, quality of life, dignity and family conciliation. The association has suffered serious losses due to last November’s DANA flooding in Valencia, losing its headquarters and materials as it is located next to the river which broke its banks under the pressure of the floodwaters. “We want to do our bit through the donations generated by this very special sporting event,” said Violero.
Madeleine Powell, president of the Club d’Atletisme Llebeig, explained that the race will begin at 10.00 am on the athletics track at CEIP Graüll and follow a route of just over 5 km that can be run or walked. Registration is already open and can be done online at www.somesport.com or in person at the Palau Municipal d’Esports (only in the morning), at the Decuero Leather in the church square, and at Llidomar Properties in Avenida de Arenal. The registration costs €5 which includes participation in the race, the number (with which the participate will participate in a raffle of various products) and the official t-shirt.
Powell also wanted to thank all the volunteers, sponsors, as well as the Policía Local de Xàbia and Protección Civil de Xàbia for their involvement, and encouraged everyone to participate and not wait until the last minute to sign up. “Both women and men can sign up, and there will be a trophy for the first three to cross the finish line, as well as a special gift for the youngest and oldest participant who participates in the race,” Powell concluded.
