Juan Ortolá: “We are deeply proud of each of you”
The councillor responsible for Public Safety expressed the pride of the residents of Xàbia in the efforts of the town’s emergency services in assisting those affected by this week’s floods.
Juan Ortolá, the councillor responsible for Public Safety in Xàbia, has posted his heartfelt thanks to the local emergency service teams which have travelled north to assist with the rescue and aid missions in the aftermath of the severe storms which struck parts of the Comunidad Valenciana earlier this week.
“Today, after more than 72 hours of tireless effort, I want to recognize the impressive work of the town’s security forces, emergency teams and volunteers who, without thinking twice, have given their time and energy to help those who need it most.
“I want to make a special mention of the Policía Local and Xàbia’s great Protección Civil team, who have gone above and beyond to help the residents of Catarroja. Together with the firefighters who arrived from all corners of Spain, the forest firefighters, the Military Emergency Unit, the Guardia Civil, the Policía Local and the Policía Nacional as well as paramedics and Cruz Roja volunteers, among many others, they have formed an unprecedented network of support and collaboration.”
“I get emotional to see our people, our residents, giving themselves selflessly and tirelessly to help unknown people in such a difficult time. Removing water from garages, moving cars, using every available resource in the search and rescue of trapped people and removing the mud left by the rains are just some of the tasks they have been performing during these four days of constant and exhausting work. However, each of them has done so with an unbreakable spirit, an iron will. Every action, every gesture, reflects the true character of the people of Xàbia: committed, supportive people and always ready to lend a hand in the most difficult moments.”
“It is difficult to find words that do justice to the effort and sacrifice of each member of the Protección Civil team. Today, they fill us with pride and remind us of the value of the vocation of service, solidarity and inexhaustible will. They are a living example of resistance, courage and humanity. On behalf of all of Xàbia, I want to thank you. We as your neighbours are deeply proud of each of you and will never forget this effort. Thanks to people like you, today we are stronger, we are more united and we are more supportive.”
